The UAE is one step closer to transforming public transportation with the upcoming launch of the Etihad Rail passenger train connecting Dubai to Fujairah. Recently, a major milestone was reached as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum personally rode the train during a test journey, signaling that the highly anticipated project is nearing operational readiness.

The full passenger service is expected to launch in 2026, marking a new era of connectivity across the Emirates. Once operational, the route between Dubai and Fujairah will take approximately 50 minutes, providing a fast, efficient, and scenic alternative to road travel. The service is designed to be modern and commuter-friendly, linking a total of 11 cities and regions across the UAE, from the western border in Al Sila to the eastern coast in Fujairah.

Strategic train stations have been confirmed in multiple emirates. In Fujairah, the station is located in the Sakamkam area, while in Sharjah, it will serve the University City neighborhood. Dubai’s stop will be near the Jumeirah Golf Estates metro station, offering smooth integration with the existing Red Line. Abu Dhabi’s connection will run through the Mussafah Industrial Area, conveniently located between Dalma Mall and the central bus station.

Each passenger train is engineered to travel at speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour, with a capacity to carry approximately 400 passengers. The service aims to deliver not only comfort but also reliability and sustainability, contributing to the nation’s long-term vision for eco-friendly transportation.

A separate high-speed rail line between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is also in the planning phase. This line will eventually operate at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour and reduce travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes. While no specific launch date has been announced for the high-speed segment, it stands as a testament to the UAE’s commitment to cutting-edge infrastructure and mobility.

With the recent test rides and continued development across the network, Etihad Rail is no longer just a vision—it’s becoming a reality. The Dubai to Fujairah passenger line promises to be a game-changer, enhancing domestic travel and opening up new opportunities for business, tourism, and daily commuting. As the nation awaits its official launch, the excitement surrounding Etihad Rail is building fast—much like the trains themselves.
